Our importer Nordic Approach has been working with Fernando Trujillo for the past 11 years, through a quality program established with the Coocentral Cooperative. Fernando is one of the farmers who has been consistently delivering delicious coffees through this programme, and is a great example of someone who has increased the quality and productivity of his crop by utilising the technical assistance provided by the Coop.

Since 2005, Coocentral has invested 2.8 million USD in social programs. These initiatives encompass housing, university education, healthcare support, funeral expenses, infrastructure development on farms, life and natural disaster insurance, an in-house education system for young growers and growers' children, as well as pension funds. Growers receive 100% of the premium paid above the current market and daily purchasing prices.

This is our first time buying from Fernando Trujillo, mainly because his coffees are usually snapped up by other roasters before they leave origin. This year we got lucky, and managed to secure ten sacks of coffee harvested from his farm late last year. Roasted for filter brewing, expect a full and sweet cup with notes of redcurrant and creamy milk chocolate.

    Importer: Nordic Approach

Fernando grows, harvests, pulps and ferments all of his coffee at his farm, La Perla. After processing, he sells the parchment to Coocentral, a cooperative who mills the coffee, prepares the export documentation and transports the coffee to port. Coocentral then sells the coffee to our importer, Nordic Approach, who ships the coffee to their own warehouse in Belgium and arranges the onward transport to our roastery.
