At Calendar, we’re building a coffee company for the future. We’re dedicated to sourcing and roasting the highest quality coffee, in the most environmentally responsible way possible. We were founded in 2018, and our beans are seasonally sourced and roasted at our small roastery in Barna, Co. Galway. We specialise in lightly roasted coffee, highlighting unique flavours with drinkability, quality and consistency, one brew to the next.  
Calendar is independently owned and managed by its founders, Zarah Lawless and Daniel Boobier, who are committed to running an ethically and environmentally conscious business, where the health and wellbeing of our team is central to our success. 
Job purpose 
We’re looking for a Production Assistant and aspiring roaster to join our small team. This is a dynamic role at the heart of our operations, and an exciting opportunity to join an ambitious and growing company. 
Employment: Full-time 
Hours: Monday - Friday, 35-45 hours per week
Remuneration: Living Wage, €12.30 per hour 
As a Production Assistant, you will be integral to all aspects of our day-to-day operations. This is a dynamic and varied role, and your responsibilities will include: 
  • Processing and fulfilling orders to make sure customers receive their coffee on time. 
  • Preparing coffee for roasting, including handling coffee sacks, weighing coffee, and cleaning buckets. 
  • Assisting the Head of Production during roasting and ensuring production protocols are adhered to. 
  • Quality control including weekly cuppings, brewing and recipe development. 
  • Sample roasting and helping select new coffees for the upcoming season.
  • Weekly cleaning and maintenance of the roasting machine. 
  • Maintaining a clean and organised roastery at all times. 
  • Participating in roaster training as required. 
  • Other tasks as determined by the Head of Production and Head of Wholesale.
The Candidate 
This role requires quick and precise work, with a relentless attention to detail and exacting standards for quality. The ability to multitask and manage competing priorities is essential, and the ideal candidate works well under pressure and takes pride in their work and workspace. Someone who approaches work with a problem-solving attitude and drive for improving processes is a strong plus. 
  • Experience as a barista or in the coffee industry is preferred, but not essential
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong computer skills, including emails and spreadsheets
  • Passionate and professional, upholding company values at all times
  • Looking to build a career in the coffee industry
