Nazario Andrés is a first-generation coffee producer in the town of Aldea San Marcos in Huehuetenango, Guatemala. Despite it’s relatively small size, Guatemala’s coffee-producing regions have very distinct regional profiles, from lighter, very sweet, fruity and complex coffees through to the heavier, richer and more chocolaty cups, making it an exciting origin to work with! Huehuetenango is probably the most famous of these regions and easily the most enjoyable to pronounce (way-way-ten-AN-go!). This area has the highest non-volcanic mountains in Central America and some of the most juicy and complex coffees we’ve tasted from Guatemala have come from here!

This lot is shade grown and is a mix of Caturra and Pache varieties, both of which are well suited to the altitudes and climatic conditions found at the farm. Nazario is dedicated, passionate and always looking to increase the quality of his crop, and his hard work is beginning to pay off. This coffee is one of the best Guatemalans we’ve tasted this season and it’s incredible to think he’s only been farming for 5 years! We’re already excited to see what next year brings, and hopefully this will be the first of many coffees we roast by this producer.

Harvested in March, this lot was picked at the very end of the season, when almost all of the cherries are deep red in colour and packed full of sugar. Tasting the coffee, you definitely get the sense of this! Expect lots of juicy yellow fruit notes, a big round body and a finish that’s clean, floral and sugary sweet. Roasted for filter, we’ve found this coffee a dream to work with! It tastes great using a variety of brew methods, amazing as a V60 and perfect for those larger batch brews.
