The Kiangoi washing station is one of three wet mills owned by the Rung’eto Farmers Cooperative in Kirinyaga, Central Kenya. The producers that belong to the Cooperative farm coffee on the slopes of Mount Kenya. This region is famous for its volcanic soils and many would argue it produces some of the highest quality coffees in the world.

It's an interesting time for Kenyan coffee. With climatic changes and the rising popularity of disease resistant varieties, there is a broader range of flavour profiles now than ever before. It's still possible to find those classic, jammy, blackcurrant cups, but flavours of plums, red fruit, hoppy florals, and citrus fruits are becoming increasingly common.

We've been roasting coffee from Kiangoi for four years, and we think these lots are a great example of just how tasty this new wave of Kenyan coffee can be. Expect a well balanced and juicy cup with notes of blackberry, redcurrant and hemp-like herbals.

The Kiangoi factory is one of three wet mills of the Rungeto Farmers Cooperative Society (FCS). Smallholder farmers deliver their coffee cherries to the factory for processing and are paid a small advance (the remaining payment is received after the coffee is sold to a buyer). The processed coffee is sent to the dry mill to be milled and graded by size and quality. The marketing agent at the mill then negotiates the price with our importers, Nordic Approach, who ship the coffee to their warehouse and arrange the onward transport to our roastery.
