Despite simple equipment, minimal infrastructure, and hardly any governmental support for farmers, there are some amazing coffees being produced in Peru. Sadly, most of the quality lots are used to create regional blends and are sold for extremely low prices. Producers are not paid for quality, so their investment in improving the infrastructure and processing practices on their farms is minimal. Fortunately things are changing!
This coffee was produced by Leodan Huaman Villegas and his farm is located very close to the Ecuadorean border in San Ignacio. This area has enormous potential for producing quality coffee, but most of the farmers here come from other crops such as sugar cane, or they are used to more traditional coffee farming practices. We sourced this coffee through Nordic Approach and their exporting partner Origin Coffee Lab and it is certified organic.
With a quality score of 87 points, this is one of our favourite coffees of the year so far. Expect a bright and juicy cup, with notes of mandarin and Raspberry. -

Leodan harvested, pulped, fermented, washed and dried this coffee at his farm in San Ignacio. After processing, this lot was sold in parchment to the exporter Origin Coffee Lab, who arranged milling and transportation to port. Origin coffee Lab then sold the coffee to the importer Nordic Approach, who shipped it to their warehouse in Belgium and arranged the onward transport to our roastery.
