In the highlands of Jaén, northern Peru, Elizabeth Troyes produces coffee on her farm, Los Romerillos, alongside her husband, Nevado. After years of farming at lower altitudes, where coffee production was becoming increasingly difficult, Elizabeth and her family made the difficult decision to sell their land and start again. They relocated to the high-altitude village of Buenos Aires, where they slowly rebuilt their lives and their farm from the ground up.

Coffee has been part of Elizabeth’s life for more than 20 years, with the past seven dedicated to specialty coffee production. During this time, she has focused on improving quality and strengthening farm management, adopting more technical processing practices and organizing her coffee into carefully managed lots. These changes have not only elevated the quality of her coffee but have also improved her family’s quality of life, enabling her to invest in their home and support her children’s education.

Los Romerillos is a true family effort. While Nevado leads the agricultural work, Elizabeth plays a central role in processing, drying, and managing the day-to-day operations of the farm. Her dedication and attention to detail have brought significant recognition. In 2024, she achieved first place in a regional competition, followed by second place in 2025, and she has also been recognised among the top 20 producers in Peru’s Cup of Excellence.

Proud of how far they have come, Elizabeth remains focused on the future. She dreams of one day building a new family home on the farm and hopes that, as the farm continues to grow and prosper, her children will one day return to Los Romerillos and carry on the family business.
