Grapefruit & Chocolate
Harvest: March 2025Country: Guatemala
Producer: Gildardo & Edy Rivas
Region: Huehuetenago
Process: Washed
Variety:Pacamara
Altitude: 1,800 maslGiladardo and Edy Rivas are two brothers producing coffee in the high-altitude region of Huehuetenango. They inherited Finca Jardín Natural from their parents following their recent passing. While their parents were passionate coffee farmers, most of their coffee was sold as commodity-grade, with a focus on quantity over quality.
When the brothers took over the farm, they reached out to Caravela to better understand the quality of their coffee and explore opportunities to improve it and sell at higher prices.
We visited Finca Jardín Natural earlier this year and were incredibly impressed. At three hectares, the farm is small and biodiverse, with many natural shade trees scattered throughout. All the coffee produced here is organic, though not formally certified. Giladardo and Edy grow a mix of coffee varieties, which they have recently started separating into individual lots.
This particular coffee comes exclusively from the Pacamara trees on their farm. It stood out on the cupping table for its high sweetness and bright citrus and floral flavors.
